Electric Vehicles

Gabel Associates has been exploring new approaches to energy and policy matters to help accelerate the growth of the electric vehicle (EV) market.  The firm has significant experience in advancing regulatory strategies that address the infrastructure, economic, and environmental issues related to EVs and other distributed energy resource (DER) technologies. These efforts are backed by the firm’s refined analysis, which takes into account the complexities connected to the intersection of EV technology on energy generation, transportation and distribution, and vehicle transportation systems.

Through extensive research and interactions with active market players, Gabel Associates has an in-depth understanding of EV market dynamics.

Gabel Associates is managing ChargEVC, a not-for-profit trade and research organization comprised of a community of stakeholders to accelerate EV development in New Jersey and beyond.  ChargEVC brings together various groups that are impacted by EV penetration, leading to a coalition of diverse interests that strives to help guide sustainable and balanced EV growth. ChargEVC members include utilities, automobile dealers, labor, environmental advocates, technology companies, consumer and community advocates, and manufacturers. ChargEVC’s focus includes outreach and collaboration with policy makers to develop programs and policies that address barriers to EV adoption, and improve accessibility to EV charging infrastructure.  The coalition is unique in that it provides state-level EV planning and advocacy, based on a local presence, and in consideration of location conditions.

As part of its involvement in ChargEVC, the firm is an active participant in helping structure ground-breaking EV studies in New Jersey from the ground up – all while working closely and collaboratively with various stakeholders to make sure the program parameters are practical, achievable, and aligned with market needs.  We are also working with numerous national partners, allowing for awareness of programs and policies in a wide variety of other jurisdictions.

Gabel Associates is preparing a report that will provide supportive research, isolate market development scenarios, quantify costs and benefits, and summarize strategic programs and policies to foster EV advancement.  This includes a current study effort which will analyze the cost/benefits and value proposition associated with EV development in New Jersey.

Gabel Associates has been on the forefront of EV research – especially regarding energy market and infrastructure impacts.  The firm was also retained to complete an EV adoption and impact study in New York.

The firm has developed detailed models that will characterize the EV opportunity for a given state or territory, and quantify potential benefits and both market and distribution system impacts. These models will provide the foundational information for subsequent policy, program, and advocacy planning.
